Though, for this fish we wouldn’t recommend tanks smaller than 20 litres. Tank decorations aren’t that crucial, however the fish demonstrates its best colouring in a well decorated tank with a dark substrate. Floating plants will create shadowed areas in a tank and make the fish feel safe, which will lead to forming of shiny orange red colouring of its body.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0491/5593/files/EmberTetra_70c2c312-29e7-4cfe-b2ae-b48e15467daa.webp?v=1687765381
red-phantom-tetra
Tetra Red Phantom

The red Phantom Tetra is a colourful addition to any freshwater community aquarium. Keep them in groups of at least five. Cory catfish tankmates can include most community tank fish as long as they are non-aggressive and friendly in nature. Otocinclus catfish, tetras, swordtails, and other corys can be a good fit. You will not want to put corys in the same tank with oscars, Texas cichlids, or Jack Dempseys. They can injure corys or may eat them.

Characteristics

<colgroup span="1"></colgroup> <colgroup span="1"></colgroup>

Family

Callichthyidae

Origin

Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela

Social

Peaceful

Tank Level

Bottom-dwelling

Minimum Tank Size

10 gallon

Diet

Omnivore

Breeding

Egglayer

Care

Easy

pH

5.8 to 7.0

Hardness

2 to 30 dGH

Temperature

72 to 79 F (22 to 26 C)

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0491/5593/products/Bronze_corydoras_shutterstock_11716438-1.jpg?v=1614073081
spotted-head-stander
Spotted Headstander (Chilodus punctatus)

The Spotted Headstander (Chilodus punctatus), also known as the Checkered Headstander, is a somewhat unusual fish that gets its common name from the odd way that it positions itself with its head pointed downward when the fish is resting. Dwarf cichlids, tetras, and peaceful catfish are all excellent choices for tankmates. The Spotted Headstander hails from waterways with low to moderate flow, but it requires very clean water. It might prey on dwarf shrimp, but is safe to keep with larger shrimp as well as other peaceful invertebrates. It is a schooling/shoaling fish, so it should be kept in schools of 6 or more.
