The Albino Diamond Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) is a striking freshwater fish featuring a white-to-silver body, yellow-orange coloring on the head, and distinct red eyes. As a variant of the freshwater angel, they generally reach up to 15 cm in length and require at least a 30-40 gallon tank with, ideally, temperatures of 24-89 deg Celcius pH of 6.5–7.5.
Key Characteristics & Care Requirements
- Appearance: Albino Diamonds have a lack of dark pigmentation, resulting in a clean white-silver look with brilliant red eyes.
- Behavior: They are generally peaceful but can become semi-aggressive or territorial, particularly when mating or in crowded tanks.
- Diet: As omnivores, they accept a wide variety of foods, including flakes, frozen, and freeze-dried foods (e.g., bloodworms).
- Tank Conditions: They require taller tanks (at least 45 cm high) to accommodate their long fins, with a preferred temperature range of 24 to 29°C (75–84°F) and slightly acidic to neutral water.
Tank Management
- Tank Mates: Best kept with other calm, medium-sized community fish, but may eat smaller fish.
- Environment: They thrive in planted tanks with open swimming areas.
- Sensitivity: Due to their lack of pigmentation, they can be more sensitive to light; lower lighting levels are recommended
