The Apistogramma agassizii "Fire Gold" is a stunning, aquarium-bred color variant of Agassiz's dwarf cichlid. It features a bright golden-yellow body accented by striking, flame-like fiery red fins. Males grow up to 7–9 cm (3.5 inches), while females stay smaller at around 5–6 cm (2.5 inches).
Ideal Water Parameters & Tank Setup
Temperature: 24–28°C (75–82°F)
pH Level: 6.0 to 7.0 (adaptable between 5.5 and 7.5 for tank-bred lines)
Water Hardness: 3–10 GH (low to moderate)
Minimum Tank Size: 75 litres (20 gallons) for a single pair
Decor: Dense live plants, driftwood, leaf litter, and small caves or coconut shells to provide distinct territories and spawning hiding spots.
Diet and Feeding
Carnivorous/Omnivorous: Prefers high-quality micro pellets, frozen or live foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms.
Routine: Feed small amounts 1 to 2 times daily.
Behavior and Tank Mates
Temperament: Generally peaceful with other species, though males can become territorial during breeding periods.
Suitable Companions: Peaceful small schooling fish (like tetras or pencilfish) and bottom-dwellers that occupy different areas of the tank.
