The Great Barrier Blenny (Ecsenius stictus) is a small, shallow-water combtooth blenny endemic to the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea, Australia. Typically found in depths of 1–20m, these 6cm fish feed on coral polyps and mucus. They are identified by a dark Y-shaped marking on the pectoral base, black chin-strap, and faint dark spots.

  • Appearance: Small, often pale or brownish, characterised by a dark, forked Y-shaped mark on the pectoral fin base, a black lower lip/chin-strap, and fine dark spots on the rear body.
  • Location: Exclusively found on the Great Barrier Reef and in the Coral Sea off Queensland, Australia.
  • Habitat: Prefers shallow coral reef environments, usually at depths of 1–20 meters.
  • Diet: Feeds mainly on coral polyps and mucous, as noted in.
  • Size: Maximum length is approximately 6 cm.
  • Behaviour: Like most comb-tooth blennies, they are likely to exhibit curious, "smiling" expressions, often seen perched on corals or rocks.
